...one of the most popular 60’s groups
in the East of England Region – if not the most popular.

The groups most famous appearance was at the BARBECUE ’67 FESTIVAL in Spalding, with JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, CREAM, PINK FLOYD, THE MOVE, GENO WASHINGTON & THE RAM JAM BAND AND ZOOT MONEY’S BIG ROLL BAND. This was possibly the first ever ‘true Music Festival’, before Glastonbury, the Isle of Wight and Woodstock had even been thought of.

Sounds Force 5 also played alongside such top bands as STATUS QUO,  PAUL AND BARRY RYAN, THE SMALL FACES, AMEN CORNER GUITARIST RICHIE BLACKMORE, THE NASHVILLE TEENS, THE SWINGING BLUE JEANS, MARMALADE, THE FOURMOST, THE YARDBIRDS, BADFINGER, THE MERSEYBEATS, JOHNNY JOHNSON AND THE BANDWAGGON, to name but a few.

Playing around East Anglia ‘SOUNDS FORCE 5’ appeared regularly at such popular venues as the Boston Glyderdrome, the Peterborough Palais, The Dorothy Ballroom Cambridge and the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

One of the most memorable ‘gigs’ for Sounds Force 5 was when they played on the beach at Perranporth, Cornwall for the Lifeguards annual Barbecue.

In  1965 the group entered one of the first ‘Battle of the Bands’ and were voted outright winners by Van Morrison who acted as Judge, when he appeared at the same event with his group ‘Them’
